With the arrival of September we start to see a shift in the seasons! Where I live the weather often remains pretty warm throughout the month. However, the daylight hours are shorter and the natural world shows signs of autumn’s approach.
For me September means apples! We have a family tradition of going on an outing to the apple orchards that are in the foothills a couple hours drive from us.

I also love to decorate my magickal cottage with an apple theme.

Apples are so magickal! They symbolize love, fertility and divination amongst other properties. Slicing an apple around its “equator” will reveal an amazing five pointed star!

Some of my past posts have highlighted apples in spells and kitchen witchery.
This September starts out with the Corn Moon on September 7th. It will also be involved in a lunar eclipse which will make it turn red and become a Blood Moon.

Blood Moons generally intensify full moon energy so if you are planning any spell work just make sure you are completely focused and aware of what you are doing. It could get crazy!
September 21 there is a new moon in Virgo. This would be a great time to start projects related to getting organized and focusing on detail. And who doesn’t need to get more organized?? Well, maybe not you Virgos, but the rest of us probably do!

Mabon is the sabbat we celebrate at the autumnal equinox. This year it will take place on September 22. This is the second of three harvest festivals and is sometimes referred to as “the Witches’ Thanksgiving”. It’s a time for feasting and merriment.
Mabon celebrates the balance in the daylight and nighttime hours. So we like to contemplate the balance in other areas of our lives. Might it be necessary to cast off something in our lives to restore balance? It’s also a time to feel gratitude for our many blessings. This harvest festival has a more feminine energy than the other two harvest festivals. And apples have a decidedly goddess energy, so there you go!

So happy September! Go outdoors and enjoy some fresh autumn air and celebrate the bounty of the harvest!
Blessings,
Sarina 🦉🌝
