Welcome, joyful August! The warmth of the sun and blessings of the early harvest inspire us to pursue our goals for our most magickal lives!
I have compiled a list of “all things August” as a reference and BOS for the month ahead. Some of the following topics could be developed into blog or vlog posts and some may be reminders of posts from the past that can be placed at our finger tips for ease of access. Just remember that this is my list as I see the energy of August. Others may add or omit as they see fit on their own personal list. Have fun with this reference guide and please make comments and share if you choose.
Lughnasadh
The month starts off with the celebration of Lughnasadh honoring Lugh, the Celtic god associated with light and the sun.

I feel like the energy of Lugh is expressed very well by The Sun tarot card. Multi talented and strong, Lugh is our great protector and sheds light on the hidden.
Corn dollies
Making corn dollies to honor the first harvest is always a favorite way to celebrate Lughnasadh. Here is a link to my vlog post on creating these little lovelies:
Sunflowers

How have I not posted about these magickal plant allies?? stay tuned!
Yarrow

One of my grandma’s favorites, a yarrow tea would cure anything according to her! More properties are protection and divination. It’s a Virgo plant.
Basil

Love, luck and prosperity are its properties.
And I’m sure I will find more August plant allies!
Bees and honey

Hey, without the bees there will be no more us, right? I have written a post in the past about creating a honey jar spell. So check it out here:

Gemstones of August
Amber – absorbs negativity for protection and stress relief.
Citrine – a stone of prosperity. Carry in your handbag or place one in your cash box.
Sunstone – helps to instill joy, optimism and courage.
Tigers eye – for grounding, protection, mental clarity and confidence.
Leo and Virgo
We often think of August as being the month of Leo, but don’t forget that the sun enters Virgo around August 22nd.
Solar plexus
As its name implies, your 3rd chakra is where you experience your joy. But it’s also where you store your anger. Might be a good area to focus on for some shadow work??

Full sturgeon moon in Aquarius
It signifies a time of harvest and abundance in the Northern Hemisphere, often referred to as the Grain Moon. Spiritually, it represents ancient wisdom, endurance, and the shedding of old patterns to embrace growth and change.
Harvest deities
In addition to Lugh we have many many more agricultural deities and even saints we might choose to honor all through the harvest season. You can explore some here:

Feast of Hecate 8/13 or 8/21
August 13 is the traditional day to honor this goddess of the crossroads.
We don’t often think of Hecate as being associated with the harvest but she helped out Demeter and Persephone after Hades pulled that kidnapping stunt. Without Hecate we might not have the seasons , right? Look it up! It’s a fascinating story of Hecate to the rescue! Her 8/21 feast day ushers in the sun sign of Virgo, an earth sign.

New moon in Virgo
Meticulous Virgo! This is a great time to create petitions for more order and perfection in your life. Couldn’t we all use some of that at times? Here’s a vlog on new moon manifesting:
Fire and earth
Fire for Leo and earth for Virgo. The obvious use for fire in magick, of course, is through candle magick. Here’s how I make candles:

And earth magick can be those lovely gemstones :
So that’s it for August inspiration ….for now. Knowing me I may be back to add to this list.
Now don’t forget to add your own ideas in the comments below! We can all use a jumpstart to get the energy flowing.
August Blessings,
Sarina
